Learn video editing,
one small challenge at a time.
EditSprint is a free, interactive game that teaches you how to edit videos. You don't need to install anything or know how to use editing software. Everything happens here in your browser.
Start by trimming a video, then learn to cut, arrange and tell a story.
Your V1 completions are kept. Replay those levels to earn the new 80 + 20 score. Your old scores remain saved as V1 results.
Your progress is kept
After you complete the six challenges, your next step is to put your skills to the test!
Your First Edit
Create your own short café video using the skills you've learned. You'll decide which clips to use, where to cut them and how to put them together.
Let's make your first edit!
First, we'll watch a short video together and see what happens. Then I'll show you how to find the best part to keep.
After that, it's your turn! I'll guide you through making your first edit, one step at a time.
Once you've finished, you can have another go on your own and see what you can create.

More about this edit (optional)
Remember watching the cup being placed on the saucer? That's the important moment we want you to see.
But the original video also has some waiting time before and after the action. We don't really need that.
This is where trimming comes in!
Trimming means shortening a video by removing unwanted time at the beginning or end.
For our first edit, we're going to keep the part between 2 and 6 seconds of the original eight-second video.
That gives us a shorter, four-second clip showing the important action.
Let's see what that looks like!
Watch the shorter version and notice how it gets straight to the action without the extra waiting.

Step 1: Watch the original
Watch the short video below. See if you can spot when the important action starts and finishes.
Want to watch a particular moment again? (Optional)
You can move the slider backwards or forwards to look at a particular part of the video. You can also type a number to jump to that moment.
This is just for watching the video. You aren't changing your edit.

Which part of the original am I seeing? (Optional)
Source times refer to the original recording. Your edit’s duration is the length of all its pieces together.
Watching your edited timeline
Watch the original video again to see what you've removed. Your edit won't change.

The source is your original video. Source in tells EditSprint where to start using that recording, and Source out tells it where to stop.
What do these controls do?
- ↶ Undo
- Take back your last change.
- ↷ Redo
- Bring back a change you just undid.
- Reset level
- Start this exercise again. Your completed challenges and best scores are kept.
- Split and Delete
- Split makes two pieces at the playhead. Delete removes the selected piece. Undo can bring it back.
- Move clip left / right
- Swap a clip with its neighbour to change the story order.
Using the selected clip
Move left/right swaps the selected clip with its neighbour and closes all gaps automatically. After trimming or deleting, use Remove gaps only if needed.
Source in and out choose which footage to keep. The playhead shows where you are in your video. A clip’s timeline position is where it starts in the assembled edit; it does not change the times in its original recording.
Your timeline
Total edit: 0.0sClick or tap a clip to select it. Use Tab then Enter with a keyboard.
Optional: drag the beginning or end of a clip to shorten it. You can also use the number boxes.
How to split a clip
The playhead is the marker showing where you are in the video. Move it to the point where you want to make a cut. To split: select a clip, place the playhead inside it, then choose Split. The playhead uses timeline time; the source fields refer to the original shot. After splitting, select the piece you want to change.
The playhead is the marker that shows which moment you’re looking at in your video. It moves as the video plays. Move it to look at another moment — this does not change your trim.
Your edit — what works and what to try next
Technical check & creative reflection
Completion checks the required clips, parts of the original recordings and joins without empty spaces or overlapping clips. Pacing suggestions are optional; your shot lengths can differ.
These are practice guidelines, not a verdict on creativity. The checker cannot assess camera movement or visual matching; use playback and your own judgement.
You chose which part of the video to keep and created a shorter version yourself.
Your edit meets the exercise requirements. Now think about how it looks when you play it.
Does the cup arrive naturally? Can you see the important action clearly?
Remember, there isn't just one perfect edit. Learning to judge what looks right is part of becoming a video editor!
